Turkey has celebrated recently the bitter anniversary of knocking at the EU’s door for a half of the century. It is the EU’s most controversial candidate, among other things, because it does not recognize one of the EU member states. Moreover the issue of Turkey joining the EU raises a lot of controversies in the EU itself. Some main European politicians, like the French president Sarkozy, would rather propose Turkey a kind of special partnership instead of the full membership.
