Croatia, the second after Slovenia, Balkan state is preparing to join the EU in the nearest future. How the border issues between Slovenia and Croatia are going to influence the negotiation process considering the fact that Slovenia and Croatia have been unable to agree on their common land and especially sea border since the two countries declared independence from the former Yugoslavia in 1991. Sweden, which took over the EU presidency in July, said it plans no fresh attempt to help settle the row, which the EU sees as a bilateral issue. It said it was time for a "period of reflection" in both countries.
